FEDEX HUB
STATEMENT
FROM THE BOARD OF THE
CONSERVATION COUNCIL OF NORTH CAROLINA
THIS STATEMENT IS IN SUPPORT OF THE GROUPS OPPOSED TO THE PROJECTED
FEDEX HUB
AT THE PIEDMONT TRIAD INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT IN GUILFORD COUNTY,
NC
(PQLC, THE SIERRA CLUB, AND
GRASP)
The Conservation Council of North Carolina is a statewide environmental organization with 1600 members and 25 member groups across North Carolina dedicated to restoring and protecting North Carolinas environment We have been involved with a variety of issues impacting the quality of North Carolinas environment and our citizens' health and quality of life for over 30 years. Air quality and water quality are two of our ongoing primary areas of concern. We oppose the Piedmont Triad International Airport's plans to construct additional runways, roads, and buildings to make the proposed FedEx HUB. The EPA has stated environmental objections with this proposed project; specifically, the proposed air cargo operations and the associated potential noise impacts as well as the impacts on air and water quality.
Given the serious negative environmental impacts associated with the type of expansion proposed for the FedEx HUB, we, the Board members of the Conservation Council, strongly support a change of focus in this project: we urge that that focus be put on the health of the citizens of Greensboro and the quality of North Carolina's natural resources, not in approving this project.
Respectfully,
CONSERVATION COUNCIL OF NORTH CAROLINA MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, 2000-2001
