As much
as 581 acres of land, or an area larger than one third
the size of the North Carolina Zoo, would need to be "acquired" for this
project. Page S-22 of the Executive
Summary also states "...all of the alternatives would result in off-airport
land use impacts." It further states, on the same page, "The total land use
impacts would include 1,143.3 acres of single-family residental land use,
1.9 acres of moble homes, 265.2 acres of multi-family residental land use,
3,313 households, and 10 noise-sensitive sites."
In addition,
as many as 142 homes (and families) and 25 businesses would be
"relocated", according to table S-1 of the
FAA Report.
You
should note that the size of the airport in Louisville, KY was doubled in
1998, mostly for flights to accommodate UPS. As a result of this expansion,
the entire 1800+ population of Minor Lane Heights , a suburb of
Louisville (See "Price of Development"), is being relocated because
the noise is so bad. This was not part of the original plan, but
"discovered" after the fact. The relocation will cost 120 million dollars
in local and federal money. (Read: TAXES)
Will we have
a similar "discovery" here?
